Radical in the White House was written by Thomas L. Friedman of the New York times. The Artile is about the historic election of our President Barack Obama thw first african american to be elected president of the united states. The author specifically talks about how he wants president Obama to be a "radical". Mr. Friedman says in the article " We cannot thrive as a country any longer by coasting on our reputation " and that he hoped that president obama would put everything on the table. I think what he means by radical is someone who is going to bring change by offering new ideas to the problems that the world faces right now. And someone who is not afraid to make tough decisions that need to be made.We as a nation have been the world leaders in the economy and human rights for a long time now but what i think the author means when he says that we can no longer thrive as a nation by coasting on our reputation is that we can no longer sit back and be judged by past accomplishments as a nation all that matters is today. right now our economy is suffering and we are not the nation that we used to be. I think that the author is calling on our new president to move us in a new direction that we have not been moved in before.
The article also points out that now more than any other time in america that people are calling the for the government to do something like when President Rosevelt steped into office after the great depression and crested new jobs for americans and added that Obama could do the same. The article i believe was written to call on President Obama to be a "radical" and to lead this country through a very tough time in our nations history and that this is the time to rise up and create change by having new ideas and creating new programs such as preident Rosevelt did and also learning from past mistakes from the previous administration.
