This article, "Radical in the White House", appeared in the New York Tmes on January 21, 2009. It was written by award-winning columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, on the day we swore in our new president, Barack Obama. While it points out the challenging tasks ahead of President Obama and the great opportunity he has to embrace and lead a broken nation, I feel as though it is calling on all of us as Americans to be "radicals" ourselves.
It is so easy to take things for granted when life it good. It's also easy to live in our own little world without paying attention to what's going on around us, without looking at the bigger picture. We must take a stand together to not only support our new radical president, but to make changes in ourselves as citizens of this country. We have to change the way we think, take responsibility, and be more involved.
